CapSU wins 2019 Regional Invention Contests and Exhibit

Two entries of Capiz State University in the 2019 Regional Invention Contests and Exhibit (RICE) were declared regional winners on October 21-23, 2019 at Iloilo Convention Center.

Out of four entries submitted for exhibition under the Creative (Likha) Category, two of these were awarded in the said event. The method of Producing Seedling and Copra from Single Germinated Nut of Coconut by Dr. Salvacion J. Legaspi, Dr. Ryan T. Sarimong and Dr. Mary Ann B. Martelino won first runner-up and Calamansi Juice Extractor by Engr. Efren L. Linan, Engr. Arlyn C. Olmo and Engr. Monalyn L. Oloroso bagged the first place.

"The Calamansi Juice Extractor, with its technical feature offers to meet certain drawbacks of the existing machines that was reported to crush the seeds and skin of the fruits thus releasing a content that results to excessive bitterness of the juice output. The small, medium and large scale processors of calamansi in the province  as well as in the whole region will benefit from this machine,” said Engr. Oloroso.


RICE is a nationwide biennial activity conducted in different regions including ARMM to recognize the hard work and efforts of the inventors, researchers and students for showcasing their ingenuity and creativity.

DOST also strives to imbue them with a deep sense of nationalism, and maximize their capability and productivity through incentives and other forms of assistance.

"The exhibit is an opportunity for us to meet possible investor for commercialization or adaptors of our technology," Engr. Oloroso added.
The regional winner received certificates of recognition and cas prize of P20,000 for the grand prize winner and P10,000 for the first runner-up under the category of Likha or Creative Research. The Calamansi Juice Rxtractor will represent Region 6 in the National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE) in 2020.
