by Catherine V. Adaniel

On Mar. 2-4, two student-leaders from Capiz State University Burias Campus in the persons of Angelica Ann C. Ramos and Jewwelly Hansel Joy B. Degoma, Supreme Student Council (SSC) President and Vice President, respectively, partook in the 5th National Youth Environmental Summit held at Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City, while Favie Gelyn V. Bardinas, Future Leaders of the Philippines (FLP) President, and Kierlo O. Tencio, FLP Vice President, participated in the 42nd Annual National Convention of Campus Advisers and 26th Annual National Convention of Student Leaders on Mar. 8-11, which similarly took place at the aforementioned venue.

Together with their advisers, Prof. Ne-an E. Loro (SSC) and Prof. Joan Rae L. Lantoria (FLP), the student-leaders engaged in talks, discussions, and activities concerning the roles of youth in climate action in order to create sustainable, peaceful, and resilient communities, as well as the essentials of leadership that drives innovation, resilience, and dynamic change.

The four-day National Youth Environmental Summit targets to spread awareness and encourage students from all over the Philippines to participate in the global movement for environmental protection and sustainability amidst the climate and ecological issues and challenges transpiring in our contemporary times,” Ramos pointed out.

The national summit and convention welcomed delegates from different public and private colleges/universities in the Philippines, with the aim of augmenting green ambassadors in the country and youths who can lead through borderless communities.

On the other hand, “the convention provided chances for the development of the skills, talents, and potential of campus advisers, student leaders, and the youth sector for us to become effective and efficient agents of global transformation,” Tencio, who attended the National Convention of Student Leaders, shared.
