In support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 15: Life on Land, the Good, Responsible, and Extraordinary Eco-warriors of Nature (GREEN) Club, in collaboration with the Advocate Leaders of Science Association (ALSA), led this year's World Environment Day celebration on June 25.

Together with student volunteers, ALSA and GREEN Club spearheaded activities including a tree-planting initiative and an environmental workshop.

Dr. Ma. Venus B. Lozada, co-adviser of ALSA and the GREEN Club, formally opened the program by emphasizing the importance of volunteerism and environmental stewardship.

“This is volunteerism with purpose—giving your time and effort to something bigger than yourself. We are shaping you to become environmental volunteers and advocates who can make a difference, starting here in your own community,” Dr. Lozada said.

As part of the campaign, participants planted seedlings.

In the afternoon, participants attended a training workshop and seminar covering topics such as action planning, azolla fertilizer production, and seed bomb-making.

Dr. Jejomar Fariรฑas, co-adviser of ALSA and the GREEN Club, expressed his appreciation to the organizers and volunteers for their active participation and dedication to environmental causes while student volunteer Ms. Luna F. Salvador reflected on her experience and the value of engaging in environmental initiatives.

“Being one of the participants in the tree planting and clean-up drive in line with the celebration of World Environment Day has been a meaningful and purposeful experience for me. By actively participating in these kinds of initiatives, we could make a difference in promoting and maintaining a healthy, safe and greener environment to live in,” Salvador said.

The event  unfolded under the global theme: “Beat Plastic Pollution".
