 CapSU earns 1st PH higher education Internationalization Award

        The pursuit to excellence continues as Capiz State University was recognized as one of the awardees of the First Philippine Higher Education Internationalization Award last May 19, 2021 via Zoom. It recognizes the concerted efforts of the Higher Education Institutes to uplift quality education and nurture its learners and graduates who can adapt to and compete in the fast and changing demands of the work force.

        Among the hundred nominees of this internationalization awards, CapSU was one of the 17 awardees who have displayed innovativeness and creativity, impact and responsiveness, and inclusivity and sustainability. It was spearheaded by the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) in collaboration with Commission on Higher Education.

        “With our concerted action as a university, CapSU is fortunate to partnership with various International partners that saw merit in our works and dedication to our advocacy and sincerity in our goals to collaborations” stated by Dr. Editha C. Alfon, SUC President III during her speech of gratitude in the awarding ceremony. “It is with great joy to be chosen as winner in the 1st Philippine Higher Education Internationalization Awards, this is an affirmation that the work, time, and effort contributed by each and every one in CapSU is indeed at park with the standards set by the commission. This recognition will serve as a fuel to further ignite the burning passion and dedication that the men and women of CapSU have”, Dr. Alfon added recognizing the effort of the faculty and staff of CapSU.

    The impressive networking and linkages of CapSU among ASEAN Countries and its commendable concepts of Internationalisation results to tangible projects that was recognized by the national arena will surely help the HEI in making sure that the learners and graduates be globally competitive.

    The Internationalization program of the university is seeing massive leverage under Dr. Mary Ann B. Martelino as Vice President for External Affairs and Linkages.

    The awarding ceremony will be held on May 20 2021 during the CHED Anniversary Celebration.

"I felt so blessed" Dr. Labado on winning International Award

    College of Management Dean, Dr.Rosine O. Labado won Best Paper Presenter Award during the 1st PREO-International Research Conference on Business, Management, Hospitality, Tourism and Social Science (1st PREO-IRCBMHTSS) with the theme: "Harnessing the Culture of Research in Academic Institutions" held on May 15 – 16, 2021 via Zoom platform.

    "I felt so blessed since I had lots of things in mind during that time. All I wanted was to present at an international level; winning was a great bonus--that day, my prayer was answered with a premium" Dr. Labado said in an on-line interview.

    Labado was one of the 44 qualified presenters from the countries of Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia that went through screening process and interview. In the final round, Presenters were given 12 minutes to present and 3 minutes for Q&A portion.

    She presented the research paper entitled "What Does It Take to be an Academic Manager: An Assessment". The study was about the managerial practices of academic heads of the different State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Panay. A descriptive – correlational research administered among 118 permanent faculty in the island.

        The said Conference was organized by Pampanga Research Educators Organization-City College of Angeles in partnership with Universiti Teknologi Maria, Malaysia and Research Synergy Foundation, Indonesia  aiming to provide a forum for researchers, educational leaders, policy makers, industry practitioners, and civil society groups to share leading edge practices and other valuable insights for socio – economic development across the ASEAN Region.

 

CAPSU BURIAS: MOST OUTSTANDING PSABE-PPG CHAPTER

          Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers Pre Professional Group CapSU Burias Chapter joins the 32^nd Philippine Agricultural Engineering Week, which was held simultaneously with 17^th International Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Conference and Exhibition and 70^th PSABE Annual National Convention, with the theme “Harnessing Industry 4.0 for Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering” April 28-29, 2021 via online virtual conferencing.

            The PPG activities included eigh contests such as conference, plenary and technical papers presentations on the research, development, extension and different engineering related contests. Capiz State University Burias PPG Chapter was hailed as the Most Outstanding PSABE PPG Chapter and bagged a total of six awards in various categories:  Honey Lee Longares got third place in Combine Harvester Parts Identification and first place on Tractor Parts Identification and Rhyshe Ann Bautista, second place; Cherry Mae Villaruel, first place Digital Poster Making, while Rhyshe Ann Bautista and Mayrel Joy Arroyo got first place in Photography Contest and first place in Video presentation spearheaded by Louel Lee G. Agpalo.

     Moreover, the faculty were also able to bring home awards. In the AB Power and Machinery Category, the research paper entitled, "Development of Calamansi Juice Extractor", presented by Engr. Monalyn L. Oloroso, with co-authors, Engr. Arlyn C. Olmo, Engr. Efren Linan, Lorelen V. Rano and Darwin N. Quiarao garnered 3rd place as Best Papaer and the research paper entitled, "“Development of Coco Fiber Twinning Machine," by Engr. Marilyn L. Bernabe won 3rd place.

        General election also takes place for PSABE officers for 2021-2022, two out of the seven positions were secured by Louel Lee Agpalo as the PSABE-PPG National President, and PABE-PPG National Associate Secretary for Honey Lee Longares. 

    The CapSU Burias PPG Chapter continues to equip themselves and harness their skills to successfully reap understanding results. 

 

 

COM BAGS AWARD ON COMEPP'S 25TH WESTERN VISAYAS VIRTUAL CONFERENCE

     Capiz State University - Burias Campus, College of Management garnered awards during the 25th Council of Management Educators and Professionals in the Philippines (COMEPP) via virtual conference hosted by University of Antique last April 29. This year's theme is "Motivation, Character, & Wellbeing: Keys to Seeking the Thrill for Victory during Challenging Times of the Pandemic."

     The event was participated by students from College of Management Department.

     Mark Jhon Cornelio a 1st year BSBA student, heralded as CHAMPION in Business Spoken Poetry and Roberto Omar a 3rd year BSBA student, won the 2ND PLACE in Impromptu Business Speech whereas Cherry Mae Laurel, Jenny Babe Diestro, Mateo Ricaforte and Diomar Olisco clenched the 2ND PLACE in Tiktok Competition.

     "What we've achieved today is also the department's achievement, so congratulations to all of us - College of Management." said Roberto Omar, one of the participants.

     The virtual conference aims to bring together educators, academicians, professionals, and students.

Webinar Series: Portal of Journalism

            To hone and develop the journalistic skills and interest of the students in the campus, CapSUnian Echo Staffs hosted a 3 Days Webinar Series on Campus Journalism last March 17-19 via Google Meet and Facebook live streaming.

     Seven resource speakers provide satisfactory wisdom in every topic. It includes: News Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, Editorial Cartooning, Introduction to Journalism, Media Interview, Copy Reading and headline writing and Page Layout and Design.

            Workshop were done after the discussion in the news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, editorial cartooning, and copy reading and headline writing for the participants to apply their learnings    Promising writers were awarded with worth 100 pesos load and for the special awards such as most participative and early bird for every session’s registration received 50 pesos worth of load.

 

                         Campus Journalists, Rocks on Paghanas 2021!

17 students from CapSU Burias participated in Paghanas 2021: 1^st Governors Virtual Kabalaka Golden Pen and Journalism Summit, March 15-18, 2021.

            The Paghanas 2021 is a competition series open for Elementary, Secondary and Tertiary Level or Youth of Capiz. For the Tertiary Level, CapSU Burias students participate on Radio Broadcasting and Collaborative Desktop Publishing.

            Radio Broadcasting Competition was held through Facebook live on the second day, both for Secondary and Tertiary Level. The participants are Leowens L. Ventura, Farah G. Villeza, Chreslen L. Escuton, Gemar A. De Pedro, Klarrifett A. Gaspe, James E. Villasis, Angelica Ann Ramos, Jay Ramon M. Alayon, Dhaine O. Villorente and Adrian Villahermosa.

            While the Collaborative Desktop Publishing was made on the third day, through a virtual conference participated by Dhaine O. Villorente, Joelyn Felizardo, Rhyshe Ann Bautista, Emily Zonio, Leowens L. Ventura, Adrian Villahermosa and Blossom Pearl Villorente.

            Awarding rites was made on the last day where the Radio Broadcasting Team garnered third place and Best in Scriptwriting. On the other hand, the Radio Broadcasting was still blessed and thankful for the opportunity given to them. “We didn’t lose, instead we gain some things which could be useful for the publication”, said Mr.Villahermosa on a virtual interview.

Rumbuhan Intensifies Students’ Awareness on Drug Abuse and Sexual Harassment

    To uphold and maintain the safety and security of every individual, Rumbuhan Teen Center intensifies student’s awareness on Drug Abuse and Sexual Harassment, through a virtual symposium on March 15, 2021 via Google Meet.

 The invited resource speakers of the symposium are Atty. Felizardo T. Demayuga Jr., Secretariats of Gender and Development Office, and Mrs. Anna Marie M. Albadejo, President of Association of VAWC Desk Officers-Roxas City.

Atty. Demayuga discuss Sexual Harassment and its Elements and Forms, RA 7877 (Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995), Duties of the Employer, Liabilities and RA 11313 (Safe Space Act). He also emphasized that sexual harassment could happen to anybody at any time and place through various forms; however, if everyone is vigilant to speak up and fight for their rights; this incident will eventually descend. 

Afterwards, Mrs. Albadejo talks about Drug Abuse Orientation for Adolescent. She highlighted the topics on Practices of Drug Abuse, Commonly Abused Drugs, Dealing with Peer Pressure and Prevention of Drug Abuse. She urged the participants to use drugs properly for most drugs are beneficial only when use under medical advice.

The program ended successfully, through a profound gratitude of Rumbuhan Teen Center officers on faculty and students who have participated and supported the activity.

     Aspiring student-leaders Honed for a Change

Honing students’ ability to lead, the Supreme Student Council of Capiz State University, Burias Campus held a Leadership Training for aspiring young leaders on February 8, 2021, via Google Meet with the theme “Leadership Competencies: Empowering Youth Minds for a Better Future”.

The activity aims to inculcate the minds of future leaders that they have an avenue for change amidst the pandemic. The resource speakers are Ms. Krishia Ann Labon and Ms. Merry Flor Martinez who had been part of the ASEAN Teacher’s Exchange Program during their time as student. They share insights on how they excel and how to become a competent leader.

The said activity is composed of 135 empowered students, intending to become a catalyst of change.

                                        CapSUnian takes part in ADTI Program

                            Mr. Kient Jerwin Tungala, a BSED Social Studies Major

        Out of 248 competitive applicants, one student from Capiz State University – Burias Campus was accepted to participate in the First Edition of ASEAN Debate Coaching Program facilitated by Australasian Debate Training Initiative (ADTI). It was funded by Australian Government through the Australia-ASEAN Council of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Kient Jerwin Tungala, a second year student of CapSU Burias major in Social Studies has been given an opportunity to get involved in the said program which was conducted via Discord App.

         “It is an honor for me to be accepted [in this program]. I didn’t expect it because the selection process was so difficult. I am thankful to those people who supported me during the process and for those students who wanted to achieve more, try surrounding yourself with positive people who will always support, motivate and advice you to accomplish more,” Mr. Tungala said.

The program will start on February 8, 2021 and will run through until April 5 of the same year which aims to help improve the access to debating to ASEAN.

This year, Capiz State University Burias Campus has to let go five calibre faculty after decades of service: Dr. Ludovico C. Olmo Jr. and Dr. Genoveva N. Labaniego from College of Agriculture and Forestry; and Dr. Leonora I. Gimoto, Prof. Elnor E. Briones and Prof. Edna D. Navarra from College of Education.

The path to greatness is not material profusion but a life spent helping others achieve their truest ultimate purpose; making a difference to the lives of naive students and sprightly cultivate their universal significance. Etching a luminous reminder that each student possess greatness that needs to be polished over time. Over the years, fiveprofessors in the academe have withstood personal travails, evaluations and overwhelming accreditation that oftentimes happen in a snap. Now, they are finally ending their voyage to embark into another one; retirement life. These distinct individuals have utterly mastered the supreme art of teaching; awakening the creative juices in students’ mind until no last pulp of internal adroit goes idle.

“There is no other greater feeling than beingpart of Capiz State University, Burias Campus.” Prof. Elnor E. Briones who served the College of Education for more than 39 years said that, “…this is where I learned a lot of new things. I was hurt, and loved, and laughed, and cried. Got left out among colleagues but yet, all the good times that we shared were and still are memorable up to this date. There is no other greater feeling than being a part of CapSU Burias. There were PASUC, CHED, and other evaluating agencies that accredit the University. I have learned to make the best of the situation that come into my life. I learn to enjoy what I see humor in life and stopped worrying what’s beyond my reach and understand that life doesn’t always unfold as I planned or imagined. She added that, “at the end, may I leave this word: you make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give”.

 “Retirement is a huge milestone in my life”for Dr. Leonora I. Gimoto, “after retirement, I can have something fun to do and learn new things which are the key to living a happy and fulfilling retired life. There be will no more pressures, no more tension and it would be a stress-free life. I’m very grateful of my co-mentors for the unity, good fellowship and for a harmonious relationship within us. I hope that those of us who have become close over the years will be able to keep in touch and that you will find time to visit me at home. I’m just a text away”.

 “I have finally served and fulfilled my purpose; I am beyond the supernova of bliss and content” Dr. Edna D. Navarra, the former principal of the Laboratory High School is humbled to voice that: “not everyone is destined to be a teacher, others have tried but are unfortunate to fully realized the extent to which the power of teacher impacts the young and novice minds of students. I am beyond grateful and blessed at the same time to be one of the pillars as an educator to make a difference to the lives of my students. I am humbled to announce that I have concluded polishing my academic journey and embark to a much more enthralling life that awaits me”.
